A Short Guide To Safety Harness Training

Anybody who works in the construction industry will have at some point spent time working on a site that requires a great length of time at a disorientating and intimidating height. The words 'don't look down' is quite clearly an understatement for people working in these circumstances, however this does not come with a strict and regulated safety precaution protecting the staff, and avoiding any potential fatalities or injuries. Many workers are now required to wear safety harnesses, however there some workers who have not completed adequate safety harness training. Wearing one is not as simple as using one and in the event of an accident one must know what to do to help the victim or themselves. The idea of this kind of training is to have the workers ready before they begin working on projects that require them to wear a safety harness. The training composes of different elements with the main part of it focussing on the use of the safety harness and the work at height safety regulation. The most important element of the training is the health and safety rules and regulations that needs to be adhered to which is an all important legal requirement for all companies to follow. There are also basic exercises and information given to workers on selecting good safety harnesses and avoiding poorly selected harnesses. Most of the safety harness training courses are classroom based and with an experienced trainer conducting the course. The students will have their own fall arrest equipment and are given a thorough lesson and understanding of the need for ensuring safety when working at a great height. The course should also cover for regulatory requirements, how to fit and adjust a harness properly, anchor points, intermediate adjustments and user inspection.Prior knowledge in health and safety issues is always a bonus, ensuring a smoother learning process and you will better understand some of the terms used during the course. This is not essential as many courses will go through this at the start of the training, however this will only be brief which is why it is a good idea to research this yourself. As well as learning how to use the harnesses it is always important to know how to fully maintain the equipment and keep them in good condition. This includes the proper method of storing them and proper inspection of the harnesses. Each one must also be recorded and deemed safe to use before use, which is completed every day.Above knowledge on rescue procedures and dealing with unpredictable situations is good so as to avoid fatalities and alleviate the risks of serious injuries.
